What to know about the

The MMHPJ Act strengthens legal protections for whistleblowers in the military, especially those reporting abuse, misconduct, or retaliation.

It aims to increase oversight of how complaints are handled within the military justice system, ensuring service members are treated fairly.

Named after Adam DeRito, a former U.S. Air Force Academy cadet and whistleblower, the act is rooted in real-life advocacy for reform and justice.

Welcome! I'm Adam

Leatherwood Development Group LLC was founded on a simple principle: the people closest to America's challenges are the people best equipped to solve them.

Across our communities, hardworking Americans are too often left without a voice as local, state, and national leaders become increasingly disconnected from the people they were elected to serve. Leatherwood exists to close that gap by bringing veterans, first responders, tradesmen, ranchers, educators, industry professionals, small business owners, and community leaders together to develop practical solutions to real problems.

We believe lasting change doesn't come from Washington, D.C. It starts in our neighborhoods, our workplaces, our farms and ranches, our classrooms, and our local governments. Our mission is to identify issues affecting everyday Americans, build coalitions around shared values, and advocate for meaningful policy solutions that strengthen our communities and our nation.

Our founder brings more than fourteen years of experience in the American energy industry, having worked in hydraulic fracturing, production operations, completions, refinery operations, and industrial wastewater treatment after earning a Master of Science in 2015. That experience provides firsthand insight into the industries and workers that keep America running.

Leatherwood has also spent more than fifteen years advocating for military accountability and reform. As the organization behind the Military Mental Health Protection and Justice Act, known as the "DeRito Act," we have worked alongside service members, veterans, lawmakers, and community leaders to improve protections for those who serve while advancing accountability throughout the Department of Defense.

Beyond legislative advocacy, Leatherwood consults with local governments, nonprofit organizations, political leaders, businesses, and community groups to transform ideas into action. Whether addressing veteran issues, public safety, infrastructure, agriculture, energy, disaster response, or community development, our approach remains the same: bring together the people with firsthand experience and give them a seat at the table.

Through the Dark Sabre and Tuxes & Tomahawks podcasts, Leatherwood continues to amplify the voices of veterans, first responders, elected officials, entrepreneurs, and everyday citizens who are committed to strengthening their communities through service, accountability, and principled leadership.

Today, Leatherwood Development Group serves as a platform for grassroots advocacy, public policy development, and community engagement. We believe America's greatest resource has never been its institutions—it has always been its people.

Our mission is clear: Empower real Americans to solve American problems through principled leadership, community action, and service to others.
